Lifeguard Certification  

 

This Class is offered in the Spring.  Usually starting mid March on Tuesday and Thursdays from 7 - 10 pm. 

Pre-Requisites

You must be 15 years of age before the end of the class.  Proof of age will be required at the first class. 

Each child must have a current physical and signed insurance waiver on file prior to attending practice.

There will be a pre-course session at which all participants will be required to successfully demonstrate the following skills::

  • Swim 500 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order: 200 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing, 100 yards of breast stroke and 200 yards of front crawl or breast stroke
  • Swim 20 yards of front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive, retrieve and return to the surface a 10-pound object from a water depth of at least 10 feet, and swim back to the starting point with the object

Certification Requirements

  • Minimum of 35 hours of classroom and pool instruction
  • Must pass all required skills and tests for CPR, first aid, and lifesaving
  • Must attend all classes

Certification

Upon successful completion of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course, you will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate.  The Lifeguard Training certificate, which includes First Aid skills, is valid for 3 years.  Along with the Lifeguard Training certificate, you will also receive a certificate in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, which is valid for 1 year.
